A Warm Place To Rest
Last summer, I had a wasp nest outside of my apartment door. The wasps wouldn't bother me, but they would often get stuck in my home and not be able to get out. As fall came around, I watched them die both in and out of my apartment. I was touched by one scene of death I experienced, and I decided to turn it into a weaving. I saw three dead wasps on my radiator in my bedroom. Immediately I had the thought “a warm place to rest”, and felt moved by the idea of these insects finding this place of warmth to then die. The weaving was a eulogy to all the wasps that died that year.
This specific weaving is color blocks using a block twill weave structure. There are five colors within the weaving, dark maroon, fuchsia, verminion, gold, and yellow. These colors represent the life and death of these once living beings. There are three repeats, creating three almost pixelated glowing centers.
